The proceeds from this silent auction will be used to purchase tools and supplies for our sawyers to maintain the trails. For site reservations call Devils Den State park at 479-761.3325 water, electric hook ups and shower house available. you are welcome to come for the whole weekend, just a day or just come for the silent auction. January 2023 Members Meeting San Miguel's restaurant 6:30pm 1/19 3722 N. Front St. Fayetteville, Arkansas We have certified sawyers BCHA just certified 14 sawyers on 10-27 & 28-2022. This now gives BCH more authority to clear trails the way that we need to. We have Chainsaw, Class A & B certified Sawyers. Pea Ridge National Military Park as of October we now have added Pea Ridge Military State park to our BCHNWA regions. BCHNWA recently installed a culvert in the part. Check out all our regions events and work dates and perhaps join us to help in the area closest to you. Every voice matters to help preserve equestrian use on public lands Grant Money Purchases BCHNWA Trail Tools On September 10, our chapter purchased Five pairs of loppers, two sets of PPE, one Sthil brand Chainsaw, and a pik axe from grant money obtained by our grant Committee consisting of members, Cecelia Wiser, Susan Andrews, jacci Perry Ryan and Shannon Hodges. A huge thank you to all who worked so hard obtaining this very first grant money for our chapter and all Northwest Arkansas equestrians. ARKANSAS TRAILS COUNCIL MEETING Rhonda Kelly-Duncan attended the Arkansas Trails Council state meeting in July 2022 learning the good work being done on a state level, as well as sharing input, and giving updates on the Northwest arkansas area and being a voice for all NWA equestrians. CPR CERTIFICATIONS The CPR first aid Class certifications took place August 20, 2022. The Chainsaw certifications and training will be later this year. Lonnie O'bryant, Debbie Townsend, Mark Varner and Rhonda Kelly-Duncan attended and completed the the course. Other members will be obtaining their certifications later this year. WASHINGTON COUNTY HORSE SHOW Members Cecelia Wiser, Zabrina Smith, Kathy Hensen and Susan Andrews were invited to represent BCHNWA Saturday August 20 by setting up a booth to interact with show attendees held at Pauline Whitaker equine arena in Fayetteville Arkansas. HOBBS STATE PARK FUN RIDE Sunday august 21 at 10 am from the Townsend ridge trail head. The ride was led by Debbie Townsend and Marla Walker. Devils Den Horse Camp Work Day Saturday September 10 8:00 A.M- TBD focus on setting posts inside the horse camp. led by Billy Jones & Jim Center WARHORSE LEGACY FOUNDATION WORK DAY September 18 from 1-4 pm led by Jacci Ryan DEVILS DEN STATE PARK FUN CAMP AND RIDE October 28-30 Horsecamp. WEDINGTON FUN RIDE AND CLEAN UP SUNDAY November 6 from 1-4 pm THANKSGIVING WEEKEND RIDE 2022 Our second post Thanksgiving weekend fun ride is scheduled to take place Friday November 25-27 at Devils Den State Park horse camp. potluck dinner and silent auction Saturday night (please bring a donation item for auction) All riders are welcome for fellowship and riding BCHNWA style. Please make your reservations at (479) 761-3677 Hobbs State Park Regional Team Friday June 3rd. We were called on to help get Dutton Hollow trail ready for a major foot race taking place on June 4th. Debbie Ludolph, Lynn Reynolds and Marla Walker were able to assist with this last minute request. We rode and trimmed for three hours. The weather was beautiful, such a blessing. On Monday I received a text from Jeff Montgomery who passed on to me some feedback from the race coordinators stating "We have never had this much glowing feedback on the conditions of the trails on race day. Well done, fellas. Thank you" Wedington Wildlife Management Area Regional Team Wedington regional team worked to clean up and remove ribbons and scrape paint on a 1.7 mile stretch of trail north of Juan Pedro Road the month of may. The team also utilized GPS mapping techniques and shared them with the members who attended the clean up ride. The Wedington team will continue working with Wedington land management authorities on this clean up project. National Back Country Horsemen of America BCHNWA members Jacci Ryan, Max Ryan, Susan Andrews and Barry Andrews attended the 2022 National Back Country Horsemen of America conference in Kansas City Kansas along with members from the Buffalo River Chapter. Arkansas had a great turn out at Nationals. The 2023 National meeting will be held in Montana where it all began to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Back Country Horsemen of America. Sawyer Training Lonnie Obryant has been appointed by ABCH as Training Coordinator for Arkansas. The National Public Lands Committee is working diligently to get members certified. We will have dates and options coming up for trainings so stay tuned. BCHNWA Regional Our regional leaders are working hard to serve each region coordinating work days and rides within each region. We hope to eventually add more regions as we grow them. Arkansas State BCHA All four of Arkansas chapters met for the yearly get together held at Cowboy up campground in Witt Spring Arkansas. Each chapter gave updates on what their individual chapter has been doing and the future goals for their area. Arkansas President Evelyn Mills and Vice President Jacci Alexander spoke on the future of BCHA for our beautiful state. Afterwards a potluck dinner and fun weekend of riding was enjoyed by all. Arkansas has four chapters Buffalo River Back Country Horsemen Lower Buffalo River Back Country Horsemen Ozark Back Country Horsemen Northwest Arkansas Back Country Horsemen 2022 Election BCHNWA held a special in person election on May 14, 2022. The BCHNWA officials can be viewed on our website. Helping our other Arkansas Chapters June 3-5 Buffalo River Back Country Chapter held a work day on the upper Buffalo river from Compton trail head to Sneed Creek. BCHNWA members Jacci Perry-Ryan, Max Ryan, Jim Center, Billy & Jenny Jones, Henry & Mary Crouch, Shannon Hodges and Rhonda Kelly-Duncan who are also all members of the Buffalo River Chapter assisted Team Leader Jacci Perry with the removal of 6 large Hickory, White Oak and Red Oak trees on a 13.5 mile stretch of trail.
