Pea Ridge National Military Park — Where History Rides Beside You

Tucked into the hills of NW Arkansas, Pea Ridge is more than a battlefield — it’s one of the most intact Civil War sites in the U.S., where Union forces secured Missouri in a pivotal 1862 victory.

At its heart stands the Elkhorn Tavern, built in 1833 — once a traveler’s refuge, later a Civil War HQ, encampment, and field hospital. Some say you can still hear echoes of soldiers and see shadows from the past…

Today, the park is alive with wildlife, walking paths, and thanks to BCHNWA, miles of equestrian trails that let you ride through history. Under the leadership of Kathy & Roy Henson, equine access and trail improvements have opened the door for generations of trail riders.

Whether you drive the 7-mile tour loop, hike a trail, or saddle up — Pea Ridge is a place where the past walks (and rides) beside you.
